Frequently Asked Questions
Thank you for reaching out to the cemetery regarding your questions and concerns. Below are answers to common questions the cemetery routinely receives:
TOPIC
NO MARKER
The cemetery strongly encourages each family to purchase a permanent memorial marker for their loved ones. The cemetery does not sell grave markers. Markers can be purchased from almost any monument company.
Remember, there are cemetery specific rules regarding the size and materials used in the marker. Before completing a purchase agreement with the monument company, be sure the marker you select meets the cemetery rules. Also, upright markers are installed by the monument company. Be sure they know the rules and have the equipment for proper installation. Temporary markers are provided by the funeral home providing the burial service. Naturally, temporary markers are just that – temporary. Funeral homes normally do not replace temporary markers. |
MISSING VASE
Flat grave markers that are designed to hold a vase are also designed with an internal storage area for the vase. If a vase is left unattended, the vase will be put into its storage spot. Sometimes, the vase design requires a screwdriver for this procedure. Also, during the month of March, all flowers are removed and vases are placed into the marker’s storage compartment by the cemetery ground keepers. This provides the cemetery the opportunity to prepare the cemetery grounds for spring, and the rest of the year, after the winter season.

FLOWERS MISSING
There are several reasons why flowers go missing. The most common problem is the wind. When flowers are found blowing around, ground keepers have no idea where they came from. The second most common problem is when flowers have been placed on the grave in a dangerous and unsafe manner in violation of cemetery rules. This includes any type of glass, steel, ceramic or pottery container. All decorations must be displayed in approved vases.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE MY DECORATIONS RETURNED?
For most first time violations, expensive decorations are placed behind the brick wall at the entrance into the cemetery. Normally, if these decorations have not been picked up within 2 weeks, they will be discarded. Rarely are decorations saved when there are repeat violations of the cemetery rules. Ground keepers are not required to save every removed decoration.

THEFT
Theft is a major concern no matter where, when or to whom it happens. For everyone’s convenience, the cemetery is open to the public 24 hours a day. To keep the cost to purchase spaces as low as possible, it is not possible to effectively monitor every hour of the day (and night). Since the cemetery is not within the Owasso city limits, we report all known theft to the Rogers county sheriff’s department.
ROAD
Originally, there was an unpaved back road into the cemetery. With the expansion of Attic storage, this road no longer exists. Currently, there are no plans to create additional entrances into the cemetery. The main entrance can be a challenge during heavy traffic times on the highway. We encourage anyone with a concern to contact public authorities regarding traffic issues along the highway.
